Sapper Cottle maakte deel uit van het 2de Peloton van 9th (Airborne) Field Company, Royal Engineers. In de Roll of Honour van de Slag om Arnhem, uitgave 2011, staat over hem:
'COTTLE, Arthur A.; Spr; 1876270; age 25. Spr Cottle is known to have been killed by bullets from a German MG on the corner of Hofstraat and Grote Markt (near the Arnhem Rhine Bridge) on 21 September 1944. He was possibly first buried as an unknown soldier in the Moscowa General Cemetery at Arnhem, and was later reinterred as such in the Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery. No known grave'
